Aces High Aviation
Reviews
Highly rated for experienced instructors, variety of aircraft, and access to controlled airspace at KLGB. Students appreciate the aerobatic and tailwheel options rarely found at typical flight schools. Some note scheduling can be competitive given fleet demand.

About Aces High Aviation
Aces High Aviation is a well-established flight school operating out of Long Beach Airport (KLGB) in Long Beach, California. Founded by two flight instructors with over 25 years of combined aviation experience, the school has grown into one of the premier training facilities in the South Bay area. The location at 3501 N Lakewood Blvd gives students direct access to the controlled airspace of one of Southern California's busiest general aviation airports, offering real-world ATC communication experience from day one. The school offers a comprehensive range of certifications including Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Instrument Rating, Flight Instructor (CFI), Instrument Instructor (CFII), Tailwheel endorsement, and Aerobatic Training. For multi-engine aspirants, the school operates a DA42 Diamond TwinStar IFR trainer. A Redbird MCX full-motion simulator rounds out the training toolkit, allowing students to log sim hours and practice procedures in a cost-effective environment. The fleet consists of 2 Cessna 172SP Skyhawks, 5 Cessna 152 IIs, 1 Boeing Stearman biplane, and the DA42 multi-engine trainer — 9 aircraft total. Aces High was the first flight school at Long Beach Airport to transition its entire eligible fleet to unleaded Avgas (UL94), reflecting a forward-thinking approach to environmental responsibility. The school emphasizes competitive pricing and transparency. Owner Sam offers a free 30-minute to 1-hour consultation for prospective students.
