About College of Alameda
College of Alameda offers an Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program, an intensive evening program designed to be completed while working during the day. Classes are scheduled in 18-week blocks, five days a week. The coursework can be completed in two years as a full-time student, or part-time as your schedule allows. The AMT program is FAA-approved and FCC-approved. The college's aviation facility is located at the north end of the Oakland International Airport and includes five aircraft, aircraft system mockup trainers, and a computer lab. Students learn to inspect and maintain aircraft, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in aircraft construction. The program prepares students for the FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic licensing exams. Graduates may find career opportunities as Aviation Mechanics or Technicians, Aircraft Engineers, or in aviation-related fields. Credits earned in the AMT program are transferable to any state university and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. College of Alameda also offers an Airframe Certificate of Achievement program designed to prepare students for the airframe portion of the FAA A&P mechanic licensing exam. A Powerplant Certificate of Achievement is also available, focusing on aircraft engines and related systems. Due to high demand, applications to the Aviation Maintenance Technology program are currently not being accepted for the next two years.
