Delaware State University's Aviation Program offers students comprehensive education and hands-on experience, preparing them for diverse careers in the aviation industry. The curriculum leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Aviation Management, Professional Pilot, or Professional Helicopter Pilot. With competitive flight lab fees and a dedicated instructor staff, DSU provides a strong flight education on the East Coast. The program emphasizes Dedication, Safety, Unity, Attitude, and Professionalism, aiming to develop successful aviation professionals with a global perspective. DSU's Professional Pilot program allows graduates to complete six FAA certifications, including Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor, and Multi-Engine ratings, all while earning a bachelor's degree. The Helicopter Flight Training Program focuses on creating Professional Helicopter Pilots, enabling them to complete FAA requirements for Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, and Certified Flight Instructor certifications. As an FAA-approved Part 141 aviation program, graduates are well-positioned to secure professional pilot jobs and pursue careers in commercial or military aviation. Located in Dover, Delaware, flight operations are conducted at the Delaware Airpark (KDVX), a short drive from the main campus. DSU boasts a partnership with Piedmont Airlines, offering a defined career path. The program is rooted in business, providing students with a broad understanding of the aviation industry from a business perspective. DSU operates the only full-service, university-based flight school in the mid-Atlantic area, equipped with a new fleet of aircraft and high-end simulators.
